PORTLAND, ME – October 25, 2026 – The Maine Mariners, proud affiliates of the NHL's Boston Bruins and AHL's Providence Bruins, defeated the Worcester Railers 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Cross Insurance Arena, completing a weekend sweep of their rivals. Maine goaltender Max Lundgren stopped 31 of 32 shots to earn the victory in his professional debut, while the Mariners scored three unanswered goals to support him.
Worcester netted the lone goal of the opening period, when Matt Demelis walked to the front of the net and backhanded one past Lundgren for a 1-0 Railers lead at 10:30 of the first.
A pair of special teams goals flipped the script for the Mariners in the middle frame. Max Andreev, who scored two shorthanded goals on Saturday, added yet another as he skated in on a breakaway and put one just inside the post on Gabriel Carriere at 11:41. Late in the period, Josh Bloom used the power play to put Maine in front, cashing in his own rebound at 18:43.
The Mariners tacked on an insurance goal at 15:19 of the third period when Antonio Venuto camped in the crease and tipped a Robert Cronin pass behind Carriere for his first goal of the season. Lundgren held strong, stopping 31 to win his debut. Carriere made 33 saves on 36 Maine shots on the other side.
The Mariners (2-1-0-0) head on a five-game road trip beginning next weekend in Trois-Rivieres, QC with games against the Lions on Friday night at Saturday afternoon.
