PORTLAND, ME – October 24, 2026 – The Maine Mariners, proud affiliates of the NHL's Boston Bruins and AHL's Providence Bruins, were victorious in their home opener on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Worcester Railers 3-0 at the Cross Insurance Arena. Max Andreev scored two shorthanded goals, while Luke Cavallin stopped all 15 Railers shots to earn the shutout.
The Mariners opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal just 2:02 into the game. Josh Bloom fed Andreev, who beat a sprawling Parker Gahagen to energize the Cross Insurance Arena early. Midway through the opening frame, Robert Cronin doubled the lead, finishing a setup in the slot from linemates Antonio Venuto and Ryan Francis at 9:25. The Mariners killed off three Worcester power play chances in the period to preserve the momentum and the 2-0 lead.
Andreev and Bloom connected on the penalty kill again at 2:36 of the second period, this time on a give-and-go, as Andreev crashed the net and tipped home his second shorthanded goal of the game. That would complete the scoring in the contest.
Cavallin's shutout was the 12th of his ECHL career. Gahagen made 21 saves on 24 Maine shots on the other side.
