GREENSBORO, NC – November 7, 2026 – The Maine Mariners, proud affiliates of the NHL's Boston Bruins and AHL's Providence Bruins, defeated the Greensboro Gargoyles, 2-0 on Saturday night at Frist Horizon Coliseum in the final game of a three-game series. Antonio Venuto scored both Mariners goals while Luke Cavallin registered the 33-save shutout.
The Gargoyles were denied the opening goal about five minutes in when a shot by Shane Ott hit the cross bar and goal post but did not cross the goal line. Venuto's first of two goals came at 6:34 of the opening period, when he led a two-on-one rush and tucked one past Yegor Velmakin. Venuto got another at 10:58, using his size to get free in front, and scooping up his own rebound to double the Maine lead.
Luke Cavallin was the star of the second period, stopping all 13 Gargoyles shots to preserve the 2-0 lead. He added nine more saves in the third to notch his second shutout of the season and 13th of his ECHL career. Velmakin made 27 stops for Greensboro.
The Mariners (4-4-0) return to home ice next Tuesday, November 10th, hosting the Wheeling Nailers at 6:30 PM in a rematch of the 2026 North Division Finals.
