PORTLAND, ME – August 20, 2026 – The Maine Mariners, proud affiliates of the NHL's Boston Bruins and AHL's Providence Bruins, have announced the re-signing of defenseman Michael Underwood for the 2026-27 season, his third in Maine.
A 28-year-old defenseman from Bloomfield Hills, MI, Underwood played 36 games in his second season with the Mariners in 2025-26, recovering from an injury. He also appeared in all 14 playoff games, scoring his first professional goal in Game 6 of the North Division Finals at Wheeling.
Underwood has appeared in 103 regular season games with the Mariners over the last two seasons. He debuted in the ECHL with the Utah Grizzlies in 2023-24, having played three games for the AHL’s Colorado Eagles the previous season.
Collegiately, Underwood played four seasons at Clarkson University, and spent his final season at Michigan State in 2022-23 before turning pro.

The Mariners 2026-27 season begins on Saturday, October 17th at Worcester with the Home Opener one week later on Saturday, October 24th, a 1 PM puck drop against the Railers.
